Known as the Silent Warrior of the deep and funky sound of dance music, Norm Talley has slowly yet steadily become a staple in the ears of dancefloor addicts in Detroit. Consistency would be an understatement. Talley shares a history as part of the West 6 Mile Detroit breed that came of age during the last days of Disco, and spent his teen years reveling in the New Age that was the early 1980s.He was an active member in the movement that was Electronic Music in Detroit. Yet, like his current partners, Norm’s roots remain in Soul, Funk, and Disco - rendering his DJ style one of soulful, vocal melodies laced over infectious percussion, and those undeniable bass lines that distinguish the BeatDown Sound from a sea of others - with the occasional Afrobeat rhythm of course. He is also known as the Gospel House guru at home.
The “Detroit Beatdown” series for Third Ear would be Norm’s first major compilation directorial as he and partner, Mike Clark, recruit and filter tracks that fit the BeatDown Sound for this overseas label’s successful project. Since the release of the original volume, Talley has also produced 12 remixes and single tracks for the “Beatdown Sessions” sub-series also on Third Ear, along with fellow re-mixers, Mike Huckaby and Bugz in the Attic. The year 2007 brought about a DJ residency at a Legendary Jazz Club called Floods which hosts a live band on one side an a DJ on the other side in downtown Detroit playing jazzy soulful house!!
Norm plans future projects with Thema recordings,MixMode recordings, Clone, Strictly Beatdown,Fathom. New releases out now on SushiTech, Partier, Third Ear available on vinyl or digital and Rue de Plaisance (Vinyl only). See, the thing is, the Silent Warrior may have infected a dancefloor near you, and you didn’t even know it was him, because - well, because he’s not really a talker… he’s a maestro.
The best funk year: 1982. Robespierre's City, Arras in the North of France, a region devastated by the past hundred years. Raised in a good family with a strong musical culture, where he could drum in Jazz & Rock bands and participate in the demoscene.
After the majority, he starts 24/7 music oriented life, geeky research to all music areas, from acousmatic to house early years, discofunk to raw funk, doing hands to hands cds, working with the local djs to make their music for megadancing and make their promotion correspondences, various local radios, growing his own style and personality. After a release on Solid Groove, he moved to Paris to reach a wider range of culture, people. Doing music only by himself for a small New York digital deep house label dj tool oriented. The year 2011 he was reaching Detroit's label Soiree Records International and working with the ultra select structure Syncrophone where his collaboration with Kris Wadsworth “Self Enemy” got well supported.
To the vinyl world, he launched an edit label called Amour with one of the witness and student of the finest area, Mr K Alexi Shelby. Three successful releases on Amour already with support from Al Kent, Dimitri From Paris, Ron Trent, Larry Heard and more…
His second label WBTTU, also vinyl only, gets heavy rotation from Japan to New York & Europe.
Djing for 10 years, he's now presenting a live session playing his past & future releases.
Creating his own unique music style, expressing himself with extreme virtuosity, precision and balance on such a beautiful artform. 30 years old, Professor Inc is one of the best underground's hope producer. After 16 years of total dedication and practice. Fred's childhoood obssession has became a carreer.
A furious dog, interbred with a child in his amniotically tender universe, running across roads when the lights are red. Alan Doe describes himself as an old dirty new born, messing with lovingly entwined analogue beats, warm basses and volatile synths, mixing stuff and waiting for an echo. A different time and space, with adversarial ideas and beverages, competing needs, a genuine symbiosis: a rough pornography, a religious song.
Paris born Yakine came out his first EP in late 2008 on Esperanza. Subsequent releases followed shortly, debuting on fellow Parisian Seuil’s imprint Eklo, Jetaime Records and Circus Company. 2009 saw the success of Yakine’s hits ‘Maissade’, ‘Askola’, ‘Stickney’ and ‘Bazingue’ and the addition of Supplement Facts, Thirtyonetwenty, Robsoul, Adult Only and District Raw to his belt. Clearly turning heads, Yakine was snapped up in 2011 for two residencies, namely the ‘Doowee’ nights at world famous Rex Club. With his ‘Harmony’ EP released on Adam Shelton and Subb-an’s One Records late last year, Yakine can look forward to a number of prestigious label showcases coming up in 2012, including a takeover of Room 3 at Fabric and the Birmingham imprint’s original stomping ground Below.
Production wise, Yakine’s ‘Get Me’ is featured on the new Eklo Compilation, as is ‘Some Say’ on the hotly anticipated Rexperience CD from Dyed Soundorom. Later this year sees a four track EP of moody, dancefloor techno on Spectral Sound, with follow-up releases on the cards. He is now on Varoslav’s label Rue de Plaisance with his bomb track “Zarrouky” (R2P008)
Label head of Rue de Plaisance, DJ/producer, Varoslav is a 30 year old Parisian of Czech origin. Inspired by black music from hip-hop to nineties house.
His passion for music quickly led him to spin records (playing at some of the best Parisian clubs), and naturally his desire to play his own sounds pushed him to production. Varoslav describes his music as coming 'from the heart'. His groovy, sexy and energetic style sliding from techno to deep house was, amongst others, influenced by his different meetings. Completely self-taught, he got involved in music and released his first productions on digital labels. His first vinyl release came out in April 2008 on the Spanish label Tishomingo. Since then, as solo or as collaboration with artists like dOP, Guy Gerber, Chaim, David K… he released others EPs or projects on a selected variety of labels.
These releases and his two unknown bootleg labels have seen his reputation as one of the exciting new DJ/producer talents grow at an astonishing rate. Since 2007 till 2011, he also managed Supplement Facts’s inprint with Guy Gerber.
The admiration from his peers has allowed to him play some of the finest clubs in Europe, including the Panorama Bar, Cocoon, Watergate and Weekend Club in Berlin, the Silo (Leuven), Fabric (London), Lux (Lisboa), Goa (Roma), Ushuaia Beach, Space (Ibiza) and the Montreux Jazz Festival...to name a few....
At present, most of his time is taken up for developing his new label project Rue de Plaisance.
Stay tuned !

Nico's figure is complex like a puzzle, the result of a youth written by experiences and extremes hardly recognizable in common places. Behind his deep expression he hides at one side the charm of a party animal and on the other side the perfect accuracy of the pure musician. Music was a love born step-by-step, firstly with piano and finally with drums as he cried “Music is percussion!” when turning his back on the ivories and dedicating over 6 years to drumming in a young rock group in the south of Italy.
Nearing the end of almost a decade of learning, Nico stumbled upon electronic music and discovered that this synthesis of eight years keyboard and drumpad left him with a spectrum of knowledge which he could apply to house music. Nico Lahs was born.
Quickly the best labels on the underground have begun to take notice and the road that leads to a bright future is now open, less than 2 years after his first original production on Resopal. Nick Curly’s 8 Bit Records and Josh Wink’s Ovum Recordings are just two of the labels to put out his music in 2011, before he closes out the year with new music on Poker Flat and Culprit and remixes on ONE Records and Brise.
You can expect much more from this young Italian talent in the coming months.
